Our 2012 Annual General Meeting and Open House took place on Monday, June 25th at 4:30pm at the YWCA of Banff’s Training Centre. Refreshments were provided during a reception and a facility tour followed the business meeting.

The Meeting featured:
Guest speaker, Pamela Knott, shared her experience from her “Way of Saint James” pilgrimage in Spain.
Meeting with our dedicated staff and Board of Directors.
Stories about our accomplishments and successes in the past year.
Available Annual Report, Audited Financial Statements and Bylaws.
Report about our future plans and events.
Full facility tour.

As we look back on the past year, we have had so many great successes to celebrate. We are so proud that after 100 years of our presence in the Banff community, we continue to provide affordable permanent accommodation as well as extensive work at a continuum of anti-violence programming, from prevention to direct service.

This year, we are excited to welcome Pamela Knott as our guest speaker. Pamela is a local artist passionate about women’s issues, which is apparent in her work. In 2010 she participated as one of 13 female artists in the fifth annual Women’s Art Show held in celebration of International Women’s Day by the Banff Public Library in conjunction with the YWCA of Banff. Pamela showed a very powerful collage of photographs entitled “Freedom Denied, No Voice” which displayed photographs of Afghan women from her visit to Afghanistan in 1977. The concept of her piece was to give the Afghan women a voice to how they are suffering.
Pamela also works as a Curatorial Assistant at the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies.
In 2001 Pamela undertook a spiritual pilgrimage in Spain called “The Way of Saint James” which, after over 1000 kilometers of hiking trails, led her to Santiago de Compostela. She will share her experiences from this journey with us.

We hope to welcome you at this year’s YWCA of Banff’s Annual General Meeting to tell you about our accomplishments in the 2011/12 fiscal year.

Please remember that if you hold a full membership (for women 16 and over), you are entitled to vote at the meeting.
